Baitadi: Enthusiasm among new voters is running high in Baitadi district as voter registration for the upcoming House of Representatives election scheduled for Falgun 21 gains momentum.

According to the District Election Office, Baitadi, the ongoing voter list update, which began on Asoj 9, has seen an encouraging response. So far, 618 individuals have registered their names in the voter list with photographs, informed Ratan Chand, computer operator at the office. Among them, 201 are women and 417 are men.

Similarly, nine individuals — two women and seven men — from outside the district have also registered their names, said Purushottam Joshi, Acting Chief of the District Election Office.

Before the update began, the district had 161,312 registered voters, including 82,126 men, 79,184 women, and two transgender voters.

The Election Commission has also made it possible to fill in personal details online via its official website www.election.gov.np. Applicants can complete the online form, print the application, and then visit the election office for photograph and fingerprint verification, after which their names will be formally registered in the voter list.

The District Election Office has urged all eligible citizens who have not yet registered to do so within the deadline. Nepali citizens aged 16 and above with a citizenship certificate can register their names in the voter list with a photo, though only those who have turned 18 are eligible to vote.
